Robert Tyree Plus
Robert Tyree is a dance artist, writer and educator. His own work has centered around his concept of intensive dance, dance in late-night contexts - or good times in discos with Lacan and Deleuze (Žižek and Massumi). He has received regional and international funding to pursue dance training in Montréal and Vienna. In 2011 he was one of two US artists selected for the danceWEB program at ImPulzTanz.
He has worked with numerous choreographers in Portland including Lucy Yim, Kaj-anne Pepper and Meshi Chavez, but his most longstanding engagements have been with Tahni Holt. He has performed in Holt's productions since 2008 and has worked on the development of Sunshine since late 2010. In addition to his work on Sunshine, Tyree is developing a poetic and choreographic collaboration with Romanian writer Andra Rotaru, initiated during her CEC ArtsLink residency in late 2011.
Tyree's writings about performance have been published online (PICA's TBA Blog + ultrapdx) as well as in FRONT, a Portland-based newspaper for contemporary dance. Holt and Tyree make up half the team that launched FRONT, which is currently working on Edition 2. He has also self-published a small book of his texts on dance in the form of a mise-en-scène that mingles choreography with discourse and design (Intensive Dance). etsy.com/listing/88987979/intensive-dance-survival-of-the-physics
