UNEP National Commitee for the Republic of Korea (UNEP KOREA) was established on February 14, 1996 as the 13th UNEP National Committee. As of 2008, there are 40 national committees all around the world.
Since its birth, UNEP Korea has contributed to addressing domestic and global environmental problems in partnership with UNEP Headquarters. UNEP Korea aims to advocate and implement UNEP's policies, guidelines and programs in Korea in cooperation with diverse stakeholders such as government, private sector and civil society.
Also, it plays vital roles in: having an influence on formulating the guidance needed for resolving demestic environmental problems, takign the lead in carrying out continuous reviews and assessments on global issues, and promoting the collection and exchange of information on the environment.
