Originally from Detroit, Dennis Jones now resides in Plymouth, Michigan. He is a licensed practicing architect, an educator and artist. He completed his formal education as an architect from the University of Detroit in 1983. He completed his Master of Fine Arts, in Painting, from Wayne State University in 1990. Since, he has exhibited his work extensively in the Detroit area and beyond.
Jones has been an adjunct professor of color theory, 2d and 3D design concepts at The College for Creative Studies since 2001. He has also taught architectural design and drawing at The University of Detroit, Wayne State University and Macomb County Community College.

Dennis Jones has been invited to participate in a show at The O K Harris Gallery in New York. The exhibition is planned for the spring of 2009.

The College for Creative Studies Center Galleries has recently shown Jones’ work in a one person show consisting of 301, text charcoal drawings titled …just the tip…The exhibition included a CD recording of Jones reading aloud each of the 301 statements contained within the drawings.

Jones exhibited a new body of work at the end of 2007 that consisted of approximately twenty text paintings in a one person show titled Fundamental(ist) at the Oakland University Art Gallery, on the campus of Oakland University. A full color catalog was published for the exhibition.

Jones' toyland installation has been shown at the Zeitgeist Gallery, located in Detroit and then moved to The Gallery Project in Ann Arbor, Michigan where the installation swelled to include eighty pieces and occupy 1100 square feet. As of March, the smaller version of toyland was included in the Windsor Biennial, at the Art Gallery of Windsor. The Art Gallery of Windsor is the Museum for the City of Windsor, Canada.

Dennis Jones was one of four artists that participated in 'Dehuman', a traveling exhibition that opened in January 2006 at the Thames Gallery, in Chatham, Ontario. The exhibition traveled to Kenderdine Art Gallery, on the campus of University of Saskatchewan, Definitely Superior Gallery, in Thunder Bay, Gallery Lambton, in Sarnia, WKP Kennedy in North Bay and then to the Woodstock Gallery in Woodstock, Ontario in 2008. He was the only artist from the U.S. included in the exhibition.

Jones completed a permanent indoor installation at The Plymouth High School for the opening of the new school in September of 2003. The installation consists of a 20 foot by 10 foot mural, surrounded by an engraved metal frame, a carved alabaster stone relief sculpture, metal castings and a low wooden bench. The budget for the installation was $30,000.00 achieved by private donations. Jones met the budget and completed the work before the school opened in September.
