Matteo Forli’s art is never casual nor the expression of his personal mood.
Through his pieces Matteo operates the reconstruction of reality, instinctively and suddenly abandoning himself to a creation he will risk everything for, all his resources are focused on this very moment, as intense as short.
The act of creation becomes a crucial moment of expression, where what takes shape in the artist mind is not what is important, what really matters here is the imaginative development of whatever will come out of Matteo’s hand.
The human body is always the starting point of his research, whether in a subtle way or in a more obvious graphic model, from which emerges the stylistic development.
Bone fragments, anatomic parts, and sometimes X rays form the artistic core of Matteo‘s work.
The fascination of the artist for the human body doesn’t have anything to do with body art, he is a lot more interested in the body after life, its evolution through time, its singularity, specific forms and limbs that redefine the human body. All these bodies are not people’s bodies, only anatomic parts.
Often we are chocked by the crudeness of extreme body intervention such as surgery; it recalls pain, and uneasiness. Here on the other hand, pictures and art works are clean, almost minimalist. The coldness with which they are elaborated makes the whole thing a lot more rational and inspires life more than anything else.
This is part of the artist contrasted essence, real life and game.
For Matteo to pick the body as base for his work helps him to exorcise primal fears usually linked to symbol as the skeleton, which he turns into a playful instrument.
The way he sheds slight on therapeutic acts (described in most art works) helps making the body more understandable, acceptable, less sacred.
