A fan of early American history with a special passion for American military forces, Russ Bryant entered the U.S. Army in the mid-eighties where he served in the 1st Ranger Battalion stationed in Savannah, Georgia. After a military parachute jump that did not go as planned, Bryant gathered himself and decided to pursue an interest and hobby as a potential career: photography. Bryant earned his BFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1995 and was a staff newspaper photographer for five years at Savannah’s The Georgia Guardian. He is the recipient of several Georgia Press Association awards to include 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in the Photo Essay category 1999, and first place in Feature Story category 1999.
After several years working as a staff newspaper photographer, Bryant went freelance and started working with a number of commercial clients (such as The Georgia Historical Society) throughout the United States and abroad. Bryant has teamed up with this best friend and spouse Susan Bryant, also a school psychologist, to produce several books on the U.S. Army and Marines. Susan has authored four books on the U.S. military with Russ shooting the images.
Bryant currently resides in Savannah, Georgia with his wife Susan, daughter Morgan who attends St. Vincent’s Academy and 9-year old son Travis. He enjoys golf, golf, and more golf, collecting muscle cars, playing the drums and biking with his family.
