TV LAB: License to Create is an historical, educational documentary and web project about an innovative period of public television from 1972-1984. Its producer/director Howard Weinberg is an award-winning independent documentary filmmaker. As a Script-Doctor he helps other filmmakers improve their documentaries and blogs at script-doctor.net. His independent documentaries include Sid at 90 and ‘Topless Cellist’ Charlotte Moorman. His network documentaries include Sports for Sale, First Things First, One Plus One and net.LEARNING. An experienced television journalist who was Founding Producer, The MacNeil/Lehrer Report; Executive Producer, Listening to America with Bill Moyers & The Dick Cavett Show; Producer, CBS Sunday Morning & Sixty Minutes, he is an educator who has taught at NYU, Dartmouth and Columbia. Since 2009, he has taught a new documentary seminar and mentored student video makers at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
