    I think I narrowed it down to viewing the .htm file locally on my computer. It's not the publishing program/editor, since I'm the only one coding the HTML. In any case, once I upload the index file to my server, IE8 has no problem viewing the Vimeo embed. It's just when it's trying to view a locally hosted .html file. Weird.

    Everytime I load my personal site in IE8 (Vista), I get a drop-down bar warning me "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click for options..." If I click "Allow Active X controls", the Vimeo embed shows up just fine... but only for that browsing session. Firefox & Chrome have no problems loading my Vimeo embed code. Why does IE8 block Vimeo embeds for ActiveX controls? Is there a way around this to visitors to my site don't see the same drop-down bar warning against ActiveX content? I haven't really used IE8 since installing, so I'm wondering if this is some kinda one-time setting thing. Thanks so much.
