My name is Sam Mantini. I am a 20-year old that had an idea. I graduated from Confederation College with Honours from their two-year Film Production Program in June of 2011.
I started my career in film and television on a show called, Canada’s Greatest Know It All, as a production assistant. I have continued to work on television shows that use a variety of cameras and gear.
While working on a Shoppers Drug Mart training video, I was introduced to the Pico dolly, which sent a bunch of ideas soaring through my mind. I loved how small it was and all the options it opened up for people.
This got me thinking and when it finally hit me to combine a dolly with a shoulder rig there was nothing that was going to stop me from designing it.
I always see camera gear that usually only serves one purpose and I don't understand why. I shoot video using a DSLR camera and have noticed that the two most commonly used camera rigs are shoulder stabilizers and dollies. So being a problem solver that I am, I came up with a way that can combine both rigs into one small compact device called the SM-1.
And that is how MANtini came to be.
