Choreographer, performance artist, and filmmaker Catherine Galasso was born in New York and raised in Italy by her father, Michael Galasso, a composer for dance and theater. She holds a European Baccalaureate from the Art Institute in Venice, Italy, and a BA in Film from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Catherine has performed her choreography in New York City (Danspace Project, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Dance New Amsterdam, Chen Dance Center, Duo Theater) San Francisco (ODC Theater, Balazo Gallery, CounterPULSE, SomArts, West Wave and Oakland Dance Festivals), as well as at the International Theater and Film Festival in Pristina, Kosovo (2006), where her multi-media work, Lightning Never Strikes the Same Place Twice, was awarded Most Original Theater Production.
In 2009, Catherine received support from the Bossak/Heilbron Charitable Foundation and the Zellerbach Family Foundation, as well as commissions from ODC Theater, Duo Theater, and the San Francisco Film Society. Catherine is a current Artist-in-Residence at ODC Theater, a 3-year engagement, by invitation of director Rob Bailis. Her choreography, performance art, and films can be seen at catherinegalasso.com.
