R05, HR09. I will say that the input 1/8" is not the most durable so you can break the connection if handled too rough. I hear Tascam and sony make some great ones too. The biggest factor is the lav mic you choose. I personally like the sanken cos11d.

If a company makes a pocket recorder smaller than others, makes proper input control (sens and level) and makes the jack very durable, that company will make millions. No one has cornered that market yet. NO ONE

Fierce Sound, I agree this article was geared mostly towards event (wedding) filmmakers, not so much commercial and movie filmmakers. When the groom is exchanging his vows and the wireless is cutting out, you cant run up and stop it, you just have to deal with it. Whether the groom speaks loud or low, i always have a setting that will accommodate for all dynamic levels so monitoring pocket recorders for that situation is much better than wireless and cleaner. If I was recoding actors on a filmset or commercial, i would use wireless like you, because of monitoring. I would also try to fit wired if i could as well. Using larger devices like roland r44 during wedding receptions can easily be monitored monitored and do not require wireless. I think the article (my fault too) could have been more specific about relating to weddings which is what most of my business is at this point.

Roland R05 is better IMO. Cleaner preamps, better limiter.
