Based in Austin, Texas, Western Vinyl has worked closely with artists around the world to release emotionally and intellectually engaging music since 1998. Over the years we've helped launch the careers of many artists including Dirty Projectors, Here We Go Magic, Callers, and Balmorhea. Guided by creativity and soul rather than genre, we've been honored to work with seasoned songwriters like J. Tillman, Nat Baldwin, and Carter Tanton, the innovative hip-hop artist Lushlife, neoclassical boundary-pushers Slow Six and Wires Under Tension, Argentinean vocal acrobat Soema Montenegro, funk-pop outsider Gary Wilson, and the late experimental music pioneer Rolf Julius. In addition to our long-term roster, through our Portrait Series we've released limited edition records by some of our favorite artists including Bonnie Prince Billy, Pierre Bastien, Tren Brothers, Robert Lippok, Goldmund, and Oren Ambarchi.
