Morgan Lehman Gallery was inaugurated in 2002 when Sally Morgan and Jay Lehman converted the ground floor of a 18th century farmhouse in Litchfield County CT into an exhibition space. By 2005, the gallery opened a second (primary) gallery in Chelsea. Today, the gallery has a 2000 sq. ft. space in the heart of Chelsea’s gallery district, located at 535 West 22nd Street.
The gallery represents twenty-two emerging and mid-career artists, all of whom live and work within the continental United States. While there is no curatorial bias towards either representation or abstraction, the gallery’s represented artists’ work in a broad range of media and stylistic modes, with particular emphasis on meticulousness of craft and strong graphic narratives. Beginning earlier this year, the gallery inaugurated a project space as a platform for introducing emerging artists that have not yet exhibited in NYC, and for collaborations with visiting curators.
The artists of Morgan Lehman Gallery have been exhibited internationally in museums and biennials and their work has been consistently reviewed in publications such as Art Forum, Art in America, Cabinet, Bomb, the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and many others.
