These Images where taken at Lunik IX, Slovakia. This is the largest Roma Ghetto in Europe housing between 12-15 thousand people. The area is engulfed in poverty with no electricity, gas and a limited water supply. This body of work follows the lives of the people and the community.
I was born in Lunik IX. Since leaving at the age of three I have felt a compelling desire to return and face the proscriptive childhood talked about but never experienced. The reality of life lived by others but lived by me. An oral story telling tradition gave me a strong connection despite my lack of actual memories of the place - they were those of people who had lived the experienced an imparted their experiences transposing them on to mine and the collected memory of those brought up at Lunik IX.
