Orla Ryan is an artist, writer and curator and lectures in the School of Art and Design Wexford Campus IT Carlow. Her art work has been exhibited in Ireland and Internationally and appears in Charley 1 and Je Vieux (2003). Ryan was the Co-editor with Maeve Connolly of The Glass Eye (2000). Her writing has also appeared in Afterimage, Variant, Circa and Filmwaves and was guest editor for Art- In-Sight (29). She recently published a visual essay in memory of Paul Willemen in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies (Mar 2013) . Orla has curated a number of artists at the Void Gallery Derry including Trinh T. Minha, Ursula Biemann, Mairead McClean and Candice Breitz. All General House Repairs looks at the relationship between fiction and documentary, family narratives, memory and accessing one’s past. my mother Jean reminisces about her childhood in the 30s. It is prompted by her receiving a long lost letter originally sent by her father George to her mother Evelyn when they parted.
