Living in New York City, raised in the cornfields of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Alec Gross has been composing and recording albums’ worth of original material over the past few years, while performing as a solo artist and with a backing band throughout the United States and abroad.
Alec’s diverse albums and thrilling live shows have earned him TV performances on the Comcast Network’s “Your Morning Show”, a licensing deal with MTV for his latest single, “Until You’re Mine”, two live performances within the past year on Sirius Satellite Radio, (both of which garnered him first prize among listener call-in votes), National Radio play for his singles “Blue-Ribbon Baby” and “Win?orLose?’, (the former reaching #82 on the National Triple A Radio charts), as well as live performance opportunities on such national stages as World Café Live, The Knitting Factory, and The Sellersville Theater.
Alec has also achieved remarkable success crafting songs for commercial jingles and soundtracks. Whether composing children’s songs for Scholastic Books or the television commercial jingle for Bojangles Chicken, Alec’s gift for catchy melodies and clever lyrics make him an exciting and versatile songwriter.
Alec’s passion, however, clearly resides in his artistic work, which has most recently been labeled ‘Cinematic Americana’ for the way he incorporates those elements of popular music, which are both ageless and immediate. With a deep gift for painting dramatic lyrical scenes, Alec’s fluency in folk and traditional idioms is unmistakable as he injects contemporary themes, production, and sensibilities into honest and timeless melodies and song structures, all delivered by his hauntingly vulnerable vocal described as being “so perfectly suited to the times” and “superbly bold”.
Alec is excited to be releasing his brand-new EP, “Rose Tattoo” in fall of 2008. Recorded with Producers Sheldon Steiger and James Walsh of MajorWho Media, “Rose Tattoo” evinces Alec’s growth as an artist and his fascination with exploring melodies and song structures that seem ancient, but have an immediate and timeless appeal. Having been featured nationally on television and radio, and bolstered by his rabid touring schedule, Alec's audience continues to grow, attracting devoted music fans hungry for an honest and original voice.
Featured Reviews:
"Blessed with a voice so perfectly suited to the times, Alec Gross has managed to capture the illusive folk/country sound so many other artists would sell their soul to find. Inspired by the likes of The Band and Bob Dylan, Gross creates songs of romance and tenderness, each laden with an unerring honesty that will arouse and amaze. It's the irony of a love for all things past that looks to have given this New York-based singer/songwriter a very promising future.”-Joel Crane of NME, Q, Mojo
“With catchy melodies, smart lyrics and strong instrumental hooks, Gross & Co. have put together a delightful record that will appeal to fans of early Wilco and Whiskeytown without being a carbon copy of either.” – Chris Connelly of DC’s On Tap Magazine
“Alec Gross combines Americana and heartland rock with a strain of folksy gentleness and a knack for melody. Raw honesty is the first and deepest impression that these songs make.” – Jon Sobel of Blogcritics.org
“The songs are classic singer/songwriter pop/rock with honest, heartfelt lyrics, with an added dimension of a country flavor woven throughout.” – Kat Coffin of Themusicedge.com
