Laryssa Husiak is an actor, writer and performance artist currently living in Des Moines, Iowa, with her roots in New York City. Laryssa’s original work weaves memoir, history and fantasy to create characters whose realities are variously comic and tragic, peppered with wonder and the bizarre. With each performance, Laryssa works to unpack expectations about gender, age, beauty, love and family. She is a 2012 recipient of an Art Matter Grant for ongoing development of her work. Laryssa has performed throughout New York City at venues such as Dixon Place, HERE, La Mama and the late-night party Pussy Faggot. She is a member of Theater of a Two-Headed Calf and co-creator of The Dyke Division's Room for Cream - a live lesbian soap opera, which enjoyed three seasons at La Mama. Other favorite productions include: Two-Headed Calf's You, My Mother (LaMama), Trifles (Ontological) & Drum of the Waves (HERE), Nick Brooke's Border Towns (HERE), Taylor Mac's Red Tide Blooming (PS122) and art installation collaborations with artist Jonathan Van Dyke. Laryssa is a graduate of NYU's Experimental Theater Wing and holds a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University.
