EOS Network is a website dedicated to users of the Canon EOS camera system. It has a blog, user forum and image gallery as well as details about training courses and, over the coming months, online training videos.
It is run by me, Dave Newton. I'm the former technical editor of EOS Magazine, a professional photographer and Canon geek.

EOS Network commented on Telephoto IS lenses and video on EOS 5D Mark II

In fact what it demonstrates is some people have an inability to read. As it says very clearly in the description, this is a test of IS with long telephoto lenses when mounted ON A TRIPOD. At no point does it deal with handheld shooting and I'd agree that yes, when shooting handheld, IS (or VR for those shooting Nikon) is a benefit when shooting video.

Even the first comment on this video managed to summarise it simply - "if you are shooting ON A TRIPOD turn IS off".

One other point, many of the Canon lenses actually say that you can leave the IS turned ON when shooting stills even on a tripod. Unfortunately, the problem is many people simply leave the IS turned on when going from handheld to tripod mounted without thinking when shooting video as well.
