Oh Mensch is a guitar duo formed by Matthias Koole and Kobe Van Cauwenberghe. They both started their guitar studies at the same time in 2002 in Antwerp. In 2005 they moved to Ghent to finish their master degree with Tom Pauwels, focussing on contemporary music. This is where they first started playing together, culminating in a much contested final exam recital which included Helmut Lachenmann's "Salut für Caudwell". After a very well received performance of Brian Ferneyhough's "No time (at all)" during the 2012 Darmstadt Ferienkurse and after Matthias finally moved back to Brazil, they decided to seriously continue their work as a duo. Oh Mensch, gib acht!
As a duo they worked with guitarists Tom Pauwels, Jürgen Ruck, Magnus Anderson and Wilhelm Bruck. They followed workshops with composers Brian Ferneyhough, Vinko Globokar, Cristian Morales and choreographer Xavier Le Roy. In 2007-2008 they participated in a chamber music seminar at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent. They performed in Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Finland and the United States.
