The Corner
THE CORNER IS A NEW WAY OF MAKING A DOCUMENTARY

The Corner is an experiment. It is an interactive public radio documentary about, for, and created with the corner of 23rd and Union in Seattle's Central District.

Beginning in June 2009, an installation created by Handsome Murals will revitalize the empty lot on the southwest corner of 23rd and Union and invite neighbors to call the documentary's phone number.

The installation will feature stunning photographs by Inye Wokoma, of neighbors standing on the corner.

NKO of the Free Sheep Foundation has designed a series of monumental structures that feature larger-than-life prints of Inye's photos. These site-specific and improvisational works will be built from found materials with 'Scratchmaster' Joe Martinez of Handsome Murals, along with collaborators No Touching Ground and David Rauschenberg.

THE CORNER IS 23RD AND UNION

Twenty Third Avenue and East Union Street is a corner in Seattle's Central District, the city's historically African American neighborhood going through gentrification.

Twenty-Third and Union is a corner in flux. What's not visible here? How can listening and speaking to one another transform and deepen our experience of a place?
