Professor Jan Baars, Ph.D. studied Sociology and Philosophy in Amsterdam, Bielefeld (as student of Niklas Luhmann) and Berkeley. He teaches Philosophy of the Social Sciences and the Humanities at the Department of Philosophy of Tilburg University and Gerontology (Aging and the Life Course) at the University for Humanistics in Utrecht, Netherlands. He has published and (co-)edited almost twenty books and published many articles about philosophical and gerontological subjects in English, German, French, Finnish and Dutch. His main interests are concepts of the life world, time and temporality and presuppositions in approaches to aging. He has lectured at several universities in Europe, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, Australia and the United States.
