Maximilla Lukacs was born in Budapest, Hungary and is a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute.

She is an award winning filmmaker and fine artist whose works have been showcased at prestigious film festivals and galleries around the globe and have been written up in Vanity Fair, T Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, V, Lula, Elle, Nylon, ANP Quarterly among others.

She has directed music videos for the likes of Courtney Love, First Aid Kit, Karen Elson, The Entrance Band and countless others, as well as fashion films for Topshop, Minnetonka, Orla Kiely and many more. She has also directed ads for BBC, Fresh, Johnson and Johnson and others.

In addition to working in film, Maximilla has continued to work in the fine arts. Her artwork has been showcased at Deitch Projects in New York, Colette in Paris, Roberts and Tilton in Los Angeles, The Partisan Gallery in San Francisco and many others. Her films were recently included in the exhibition “Projections: A Festival of Rare and Hard to See Films” curated by Aaron Rose which included the likes of Jean-Luc Godard, Jonas Mekas, Harmony Korine, Miranda July and many others. She recently screened her film “Arcadia” at the legendary Anthology Film Archives in NY.

In 2012 Maximilla was finally able to merge her passions for art and activism by co-founding along with Sarah Sophie Flicker, Tennessee Thomas, and Rebecca Fernandes, The Department of Peace - an organization that is geared toward creating consciousness raising content and inspiring young people toward political action. Over the past few months The Department of Peace has created a series of very successful PSAs that have featured the likes of Yoko Ono, Lena Dunham, Lesley Gore, Miranda July, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Susan Sarandon and many many more. The 1st of these “You Don’t Own Me” was picked up by the mainstream news media – The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, Move On and CNN along with countless fashion, music and political blogs. It even garnered praise from feminist luminary Gloria Steinem and legendary rock n’roll author Greil Marcus.

Maximilla currently resides in Los Angeles.
