Laura Newman is a director, producer and writer based out of New York City. She has just completed her first feature WE ARE THE HARTMANS starring Richard Chamberlain and Ben Curtis.
She currently works for NYU, directing and producing short educational videos for the Material Sciences Department. Her short films have been Official Selections of the Avignon Film Festival, Palm Spring International Shorts, Big Apple, Santa Fe and many other Festivals. Her short PET PEEVE was named one was as the top 10 best for a Nerve.com video contest. As a producer, Laura worked on the documentary GASLAND, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, currently airing on HBO.
Past projects Laura has directed and produced include: a commercial campaign for Wiley Publishing’s new book, TOY MONSTER, 6 comic viral web-videos for Collaborative Health LLC., a video for BioBus.org, and the campaign video for Reverend Billy’s NYC Mayoral race as the Green Party candidate. She’s worked for Oxfam International as a collaborating director and producer on the music video IN MY NAME with music by Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. Recently, she directed and edited a segment about Kurt Vonnegut for the TV show THE LAST TELVANGELIST, airing nationally on Free Speech TV. In partnership with the Lower Eastside Girl’s Club, Laura directed and produced WHAT’Z UP! NEWS, a TV news show written by kids and mentored by professional journalists and videographers. Laura continues to teach video at the Girl’s Club on a regular basis.
