A dancer and visual artist since 1980, Andrew is dedicated to a redefinition of the space of performance as a fluid continuum of artist-audience-site interactions. As the locus of these interactions, the art object is the vehicle for the transformation of consciousness of both artist and audience. Andrew characterizes the resulting awareness, focused and amplified by site as the space of performance, as sacred space.
Andrew attended the Cooper Union School of Art in the 1970's where he studied painting, drawing and photography. He hods a BFA in dance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, and an MFA in Dance from Arizona State University (2008), where he developed choreographic strategies for interactive performance environments.
Andrew is artistic director of Andrew Marcus Performance, and co-artistic director of Zero Performance and The Slow Training for Embodied Projects.
