Now celebrating its 20th season, FearNoMusic has earned a reputation for pushing the boundaries of chamber music and challenging audiences with extraordinary programs and collaborations. Based in Portland, Oregon, FNM’s work has united them with a wide range of artists of various mediums (i.e. a taiko ensemble, the zheng, the shakuhachi, the theremin, electronics, multi-media videos and dancers from every discipline). The group has worked to foster new audiences by collaborating internationally while maintaining a special interest in featuring local composers, musicians and artists of all disciplines.
The FearNoMusic ensemble is especially proud of its unique educational outreach program, The Young Composers Project, a series of workshops and a performance dedicated to developing the next generation of composers from the Pacific Northwest.
Participating students have won a lengthy list of awards including state, regional and national honors. All-Classical FM (KQAC) Radio has annually broadcast interviews with some of the young composers along with their pieces and segments of the workshop have been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s “ArtBeat.” Students have participated in master classes with Pulitzer Prize winning composer William Bolcom, Indiana University faculty member David Dzubay, and DJ Gabriel Prokofiev.
Praise for FearNoMusic:
“FearNoMusic…play with a felicitous combination of easy rapport and tight ensemble.” —The Oregonian
“Fear No Music just played the rockinest set that’s ever included a waterphone, I’d wager.” —pdxpopnow
