The UVM Transportation Research Center (TRC) is a hub for innovative and interdisciplinary research, education and outreach on sustainable transportation system solutions.
The TRC's research projects focus on sustainable transportation for northern communities. Projects often address how transportation impacts the environment, vital communities and energy efficiency.
USDOT UTC funding has been used to seed foundational unique data and expertise in signature focus areas. Please follow the links to see our projects listed by focus area or view our complete research project list.
1. Integrated Transportation & Land Use Modeling
2. Tailpipe Emissions and Other Environmental Impacts
3. Tourism Travel
4. Seasonal Patterns in Mobility (including walking and biking)
5. Transportation Energy and System Efficiency
6. Transportation Finance
7. Safety
Through our outreach programs and events, we bring together researchers, students and citizens — all eager to discuss transportation funding, transportation and climate change, alternative energy and many other timely topics. These events showcase the full cycle of research, data collection, student education and public debate of transportation that is critical to our quality of life and economy. It's an exciting opportunity for the TRC to serve this vital role for Vermont.
The TRC also serves as the host of the National University Transportation Center (UTC), funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as the Vermont Clean Cities Coalition, funded by the US Department of Energy and the Vermont Department of Public Service. The center was founded in 2006 and designated a UVM Matrix Center in September 2008.
