Jano Burmester is a Peruvian filmmaker and scriptwriter with studies of cinematography in Argentina (University of Buenos Aires, SICA, ENERC) and a Major in Communication Sciences. He started as TV co-host and reporter and then moved to the US, where he gained experience in the making and production of soup operas for American and Latin television. He has also been Assistant Director of Peruvian short films that were awarded nationally and internationally.
In 2010 he writes, produces and directs his first short film “Regreso”, winning the Short Film Contest of the Cinematography National Council of Peru and the prizes of Best Opera Prima at the FilmoCorto (Lima Film Festival) and Best Actor at the FAM (Brazil). “Regreso” has been part of the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival 2011, the Short Film Market of Clermont-Ferrand Festival 2012 and selected for film festivals in Chile, Argentina, US, Brazil, Uruguay, France and Italy.
He is currently working on his second short film “LOST IN HOMESTEAD”, which will be shot in Miami, while he is at the development stage of the Transmedia Documentary Film “FAMILY”, an intimate look to 7 filmmakers from different countries in South America, that lead us to a reflection about identity and cultural diversity.
