The St. Helena Historical Society (shstory.org) explores the rich history of our town and of the extended "up-valley" Napa County region of northern California. Learn about and help support our campaign to give St Helena history a home History Center at itsabouttimesthelena.org.
"The St. Helena Historical Society is a nonprofit public educational organization. Its mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and provide access to historical materials of all kinds from our community as well as to promote public awareness and participation in the collection of such materials."
One of St. Helena's greatest qualities is its rich and diverse heritage. A stroll down Main Street easily attests to the charm and small-town character found here, but there are layers and depths of stories abounding beyond the surface. The St Helena Historical Society explores, illuminates and deepens our appreciation of the lives and deeds of our local history-makers, past and present.
The unique character of this community is nourished by its roots. St. Helena's history is one of people and passions, farming inventions and innovation, wine promotion and Prohibition, politics and philanthropy; of Native Americans displaced after thousands of years, of Californios, and waves of European and Asian immigrants living their dreams on this soil.

LOCAL HISTORY: The St Helena Historical Society preserves, discovers, and keeps local history alive. We work congenially with the Napa County Historical Society, Preservation Napa County, Landmarks Napa County, the Napa Valley Museum and many, many other organizations and nonprofits that share our goals. Please see our page "likes" for connecting to our many collaborative friend organizations.
GEOGRAPHIC FOCUS: While our society takes its name from the town of St Helena, the geographic area we "cover" is much more extensive, roughly following the St Helena Unified School District lines extending from about Oakville, north to Bale Mill, and east to Angwin, Chiles Valley, and Pope Valley.
