We all are working for the same thing, if things do diverge, then this will simply form the basis for further plurality of approaches. Nature doesn't work on one solution to a problem, but 100,000 at the same time. And then the inverse selection process refines that selection into something new. This is a great opportunity for you and I to explore new ideas and avenues. Closely connected to the VP or loosely, which ever path you chose: we are still working towards the same goal.
If you haven't seen this video yet: youtube.com/watch?v=KnpEyRSWncU you should, it's a great ZDAY2011 presentation from our friends in the Texas chapter.
Here in Portland, and apparently in other places we are starting to talk about how to enable a gradual transition by enacting the values of a local resource based economy w/i our local communities... this approach has a huge potential to provide the necessary shift in culture/consciousness which will result in a more gradual and less dramatic shift into our future.

9 months agoSeb commented on Zday2011 Venus Project: The Transition -- Sebastian ChedalWell there are two kinds of TVP cities. Those that are trying to be transitional-micro-models, and TVP cities that are intended to be test-cities. A test city is more of a scientific research project: can this work? what works well? what can be improved? A transition-city is more of a long-term transition attitude, via people going to circular cities today. Jacque is against transition-cities because it has to be a global VP or nothing. All-in-one-go. Otherwise its simply not a VP RBE. Jacque is for a test-model city, but only when there is enough awareness and enough of the right technical people involved to achieve such a thing so that we are sure of success before we start. Disclaimer: I am basing these on inferences from what Jacque and Peter have said over the years, so I could be wrong and I do not intend to speak in their name; but this is what I understand. And it is also what I personally think is true and the right way to do it. We need to build a model city to demonstrate and learn from our RBE concepts, but we also need enough momentum and involvement before we start to make this happen. Let me know if you disagree or what your thoughts are on this!
