From a very young age my passion has always been the ocean, she's like a best friend to me. With this as a driving force I have sought to understand and experience her in any way I can. In 2006 I became a NAUI instructor and began getting more involved with the recreational and scientific diving community in the Monterey Bay area (Moss Landing Marine Labs, Reef Check, Monterey Bay Aquarium). I'm currently a student at Monterey Peninsula College and will transfer to the biology department at UCSC next fall to finish my degree in Ecology and Evolution. From there I want to go into education and media as I believe this is one of the most influential avenues in cultivating a connection between people and the natural systems that support us. In the summer of 2008 I worked at the CIMI summer camp on Catalina Island teaching snorkeling and scuba to kids. While there I had the opportunity to work with the underwater video equipment and editing program (Final Cut) they have there and I produced the short project Beneath the Surface. My experience at CIMI punctuated my desire to go into educational media - both writing and video/film. My most intense interests are in the filming and editing processes but I am very interested in all the aspects of video/film production. My goal is to work on projects that connect people with the natural systems that support them and to educate people about those systems in an engaging way.
