Heiko Kalmbach works as a filmmaker, video artist and theater director. Born in the Black Forest in Germany, he completed a filmmaking degree at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. His work has screened at Festivals worldwide and at venues like Anthology Film Archives NY and the Goethe Institute (Paris, New York, Kolkata, Mexico City). His feature documentary IF ONE THING MATTERS – A FILM ABOUT WOLFGANG TILLMANS premiered in the Forum section at Berlin International Film Festival in 2008 and has been invited to Festivals like Copenhagen, Lisbon, Oslo and Toronto. His work as a stage director and video designer has been presented at Volksbühne Berlin, La MaMa New York, Chamäleon Theater Berlin, Thalia Theater Hamburg and the Dramafest in Mexico City. In January 2013 his collaboration with composer Katharina Rosenberger, the sound- and video installation VIVA VOCE showed at Human Resources in Los Angeles.
Since 1999 Heiko Kalmbach has been teaching workshops in his fields of practice at institutions like TU Berlin, the Interprofessional Studies Program at AAIS London, and 'Theatertreffen der Jugend' Berlin. Most recently he conducted workshops for the Goethe Institute Mexico City within the EU project Re-Mex.
