The location comes from the Twitter profile (I realize this can be easily spoofed but with 11,000 tweets it's probably a decent representation).

The continental texture is from here - a shaded specular map plus the night lights image to indicate population centres: planetpixelempo rium.com/earth.html

On top of that is a cloud layer, also from that site.
