ENCODING MOTION

"Encoding motion" is a live audiovisual performance based around optical illusions and video feedback.
A wall-mount fan is the centrepiece of the performance as a sole generator of sound and visuals.
The performance is a live investigation of the way the human brain perceives audiovisual input.
The audience is mislead by what they see and hear. The human brain matches aural rhytmic structures
to visual input and makes connections that aren't there.
The fan produces artificial sounds that are perceived as "real" and are linked to the motion and speed of
the fan, which constantly seem to vary in speed, direction and number due to fast stroboscopic imagery.
By our registration of the fan we create an audiovisual piece which is as unpredictable as fascinating and
gives further insight in the human's sensory system of "encoding motion".

Experimental Tribute

This is a brief tribute I made to the experimental work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop who recently staged a performance in London, that I couldn't attend. All the sounds and loops originate from the BC8 synth, the Gakken SX-150 synth and the BugBrand Weevil synths. All the effects and processing is done with the Boss pedals. Oh yeah... and I did the whole thing 'upside down'.
