Tom Petch is a screenwriter, producer and director, and founder of Salt Film (saltfilm.com).
In 1997, following eight years’ service in the British Army, Petch left to attend the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield. After working as a production and location manger for several years, he founded Salt Film in 2000, which went on to become the UK’s most successful commercial location and production company, where he continues as both company director and producer.
Petch has written and directed a number of short films, including “Low Street” (2004) which appeared in Raindance, Foyle, LA, and Soho Rushes Film Festivals, where he was nominated best newcomer.
In 2006, Petch sold his first feature script, ‘The Tourist’, based on his experiences in the Bosnian War. He continued to use his military experience when, in 2008, acclaimed Russian producer and director, Alexei Sidorov, commissioned him to write ‘Thug’. Petch’s first independent script, ‘AFG’, is now in pre-production.
As well as writing and directing films with a military slant, Petch has acted as second unit director and advised on a number of military commercials and films, including ‘Traitor’ (2008).
Petch lives in London with his two children. When not writing and directing, he can be found surfing or painting.
