I would have two feature requests:

1. You need to have re-positionable knees and ribbons.
2. The re-positionable knees should be able to space switch between knee space and world space, allowing you to lock the knee.

BTW, space switching can be done with a helper bone, and a script. The helper bone has copy loc, rot and scale constraints to every "space bone", and is the parent of the controller. When you activate the space switch, the script records the controllers global LocRotScale, sets the helper bones constraints to zero, and sets the constraints for the next space to one. Finally, the script transforms the controller bone to its original global coordinates.
