Liz Rosenfeld (b.1979, New York, NY) is a Berlin-based artist utilizing modes of performance through film and video in order to convey a sense of past and future histories through moving images. Liz has made a deliciously painful and lifelong commitment to understanding queers. Her current work deals with issues of queer identity as represented though revisionist history, cruising, transient bodies, pop culture icons and different kinds of public and private transitional space. Rosenfeld is invested in concepts of how we remember our own history, as well as how and where we identify ourselves with/in community and the poly- relationships formed between people. The linage of traditions such as family portraiture, re-enactment, archiving, and communal gatherings, are important themes present throughout her work. She is intent on examining the possibility of more within the multitude, as opposed to a final end, or what could be called the orgasmic moment. Rosenfeld is part of the Berlin based film production collective NowMomentNow, and is also one of the founding members of the food- performance group Foodgasm. She has collaborated with Swedish Feminist Film Director Marit Östberg and the Swedish electro- pop band, ‘The Knife.’ Rosenfeld’s work has been screened and performed internationally at venues including The Tate Modern, The Hayward Gallery, The C/O Gallery, The Kunst Haus Dresden, The Hebbel am Ufer Theater, The British Film Institute, The Victoria & Albert Museum, The Hammer Museum, The Kitchen, and Rivington Place. Rosenfeld has most recently collaborated on a new performance piece with director/ performer Jeremy Wade, and presented one of the opening performances at The 2014 Donau Festival in Austria. She has been profiled in publications such as: Camera Obscura, Art Review, Little Joe, and Missy Magazine. She graduated from Hampshire College in 1998 with a BA in New Media. She received her MFA from the school of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005 followed by a Masters in Performance Studies from Tisch School of The Arts at New York University in 2007.
