4 days agoHe commented on TUTOR: Synchronization of sound in PS3One way to make it easier to adjust the timing of the slide changes to the sound is to import the sound track into a program like Audacity so that you can look at the graph of the sound, which provides an accurate time line. Then you can play and start/stop the sound easily to find the exact points where some event in the sound happens and read the time off the graph. Then adjust the slide timing so that the transition to the next photo happens at the same time. (PS3 shows the time that the next slide begins in the "customise motion" dialog box)
If your soundtrack does not begin with the first slide you have to account for the duration of the slides prior to the beginning of the sound track, of course.
My "Flowers" video was done this way, if anyone wants to check it out. (download the original to get accurate sound timing, not the vimeo-streamed one) -
12 days agoHe commented on Stereoscopic 3D 'panning'Hi Ted. The two outer images aren't actually 3D images, but they might appear so because of the movement when the clip is playing. If you stop the clip, you'll see the outer images are 'flat', and only the centre image is true 3D. The slide duration is 0.1 seconds. My camera takes 3 photos per second, so 1 photo per 0.333 seconds, which means this clip plays about 3 times as fast as it was 'recorded'. I drove my car very slowly while I took this series of shots.

13 days agoHe commented on Technical question re PS3 in the Photo Story Magic Forum forum of the PhotoStoryMagic channelIs there any way in which you can set the transition type, transition time, and photo display duration time for multiple photos (or all of them) in a photo story project? When you've imported 100 photos, it's rather tedious to change the default settings on all of them, if the default is not what is wanted. I wish PS3's default settings did not automatically set panning and zooming either. I never use the default or automatic settings anyway. Also, how can I produce a video output that is different from the preset options available. What if I want a video size of 1024x682 instead of 1024x768? (The former matches my camera's aspect ratio.) Thanks in advance for any answers.

13 days agoHe commented on Stereo with pan in PS3I can't do the cross-eyed view of 3D, I use the parallel view instead which I find much easier on the eyes. (No strain at all.) Using the parallel method on a crossed 3D set still gives some 3D illusion, but just back to front. (Object further away appear to be in front)
I think the 3D aspect won't work with PS3 because you're trying to pan across a still image, whereas in true 3D one's viewpoint would change with the pan and that would make the foreground move faster than the background.
Perhaps a different 'trick' can be used to simulate 3D panning: Take a series of photos of the same scene but move the camera a small distance (say 1 inch) to the right or left after each photo is taken. Then put pics 1 & 2 side by side for the first image in PS3. The next image consists of pics 2 & 3 side by side. The next is pics 3 & 4 side by side. And so on. Then have PS3 slowly cross fade through the images.
Hmm, that sounds interesting enough that I might just have to try it myself! -

13 days agoHe commented on On a Drive to Williamstown (for Chabelita)Hi Ray. I think the panning pace is ok and the music is nice too, and it's a great idea to use a painting for the background image. The only suggestion for improvement I would make is to find a better way to record your own voice so that it matches the audio quality of the music. The music has a good range from bass to treble, while your voice recording lacks the bass and sounds a bit tinny. Maybe a better microphone, or holding it closer to your face, would improve the audio?
