Tassos Boulmetis was born in Istanbul. He studied Physics at the University of Athens and Film Production at the University of California (UCLA), with a scholarship from A. Onassis Foundation. At UCLA he taught as an assistant professor classes on directing actors for film and television.
For the past twenty five years he directs commercials for the Greek and European advertising industry. He has directed two features:
His first film "THE DREAM FACTORY" has won 8 awards in Greece and the Golden Award of Fantasy Movies at the Houston Film Festival. His second film "A Touch of Spice", a Greek Turkish co-production, was a labour of love for him since the story is mostly based on true facts drawn from his own life. The film became the biggest hit ever in Greece with over 1.600.00 admissions and has been distributed in 45 countries all over the world. The film was Greece's official entry in the Academy Awards of 2005. Tassos Boulmetis is the first president of the Hellenic Film Academy.
