Valeri Bates is a young, talented filmmaker influenced by drama and Japanese popular culture. Being heavily interested in foreign filmmaking, she carries those ideals over into her own productions. In example, Japanese filmmakers have small crews and work quickly and more personally than film crews here in America. Valeri is from the small town Louisburg, KS. For one of her first films, "Affliction," she wrote, directed, and starred in it. Needing convincing space that this was taking place after the zombie apocalypse, she contacted City Counsel and proposed to close down the main street in Downtown Louisburg for a few hours early on a Sunday morning. The local newspaper wrote a story on the production, and it was her first cover story press piece as a filmmaker. Aside from student productions, Valeri was also an actress in a local web series written and produced by grammy winner Jennifer Plas, who was her acting instructor when she attended Hoffman Model and Talent Agency in 2009 - 2010. In addition to professional acting experience, she has done runway and print modeling, including a Community America Credit Union advertisement shot by famous photographer Ron Berg. She has always taken interest in the performing and fine arts. In early 2010, Valeri tried out to be the front-woman of a local pop-metal band known as The Soundness. They have performed in local venues in Missouri as well as recorded a demo. Valeri's talent has been recognized throughout her small-town community, and her artistic reputation is now branching out into greater Kansas City as a talented performer and filmmaker.
