I powered 14 servos with the arduino but the servos had no attachments or things that would cause the motor to work harder. When the motors do work and they need to move something, they suck up more Amps which cause the arduino to fail. The arduino only has enough Amps to power one or two Servos at full capacity, anything more than that will cause the arduino to loose Amps needed to run its processor which will lead to arduino re-booting. Definitely use external power to make sure the servos work properly at all times. Even one servo motor can cause a power surge that interferes with the arduino. I used a Pololu Servo Controller to manage this.
