Part of the burgeoning Eastern European electronica scene, Hungarian heavyweight band Zagar started out as three-fifth of the Yonderboi Quintet. After a few years and massive critical success, keyboard player Balázs Zságer (Zagar’s namesake), the turntablist wizard Dj Bootsie and Tibor Lázár drummer splintered off to form their own sound which is a mixture of wave rock, electronica and psychedelic soundscapes embedded in an intriguing Hungarian spirit. Later joined the group the crowd pleaser bassist Ákos Zságer-Varga and lead singer with a true rock star quality George Ligeti.
Their masterfully crafted albums combine powerful hit-driven tracks with cinematic moods, which blow up when performed live. No wonder they’re sought after performers on festivals and clubs all around Europe. The band has been performing since 2001. Apart from Hungary they have already played in UK, The Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Russia. They supported Depeche Mode at the Budapest leg of the Tour of the Universe 2009.
Zagar’s tunes has also been incorporated into short, feature films and theatre also. They branched into soundtrack scoring opportunities and most notably their tracks have been picked up by American CSI series on a few occasions.
Their latest album, Cannot Walk Fly Instead was released worldwide on the German label, Mole Listening Pearls. This album entered the top 10 charts immediately in Hungary. Its first single Wings of Love, featuring the Underground Divas - six of Hungary's most popular independent singers - earned heavy radio airplay and secured a no1. spot on MTV's video chart. They have earned numerous awards for this record, most notably the Hungarian Record Industry’s Fonogram Award and prize in the International Songwriting Competition. They were nominated for the Regional Award in the MTV European Music Awards 2008 and 2009 also.
The band is already in the studio working on their eagerly anticipated next studio album. In the meanwhile in the first quarter of 2011 they are releaseing singles from their latest album with great remixes by Moonbotica, Terry Lee Brown Jr., Cottonmouth, Eriq Johnson, Dj Bootsie and Demon Superior.
