Illuminate, Nottingham Museums Young Arts Collective is a group of 16- 25 year olds who meet at the Brewhouse Yard Museum every Wednesdays from 4.00-5.30
In partnership with Nottingham Museums, we work with Museum staff and artists to devise and take part in creative projects, create exhibitions and share ideas around how Nottingham Museums can be made more interesting and accessible.
We have created art work for a city centre exhibition, ran tours around the BAS7, written and performed in a film to be shown as part of an upcoming exhibition at Nottingham Castle and curated a show around the theme of Love in partnership with Tate Modern. We are now working on an animation project and curating a show of the Castle's collection of Chinese Textiles.
"Stories of the World" Exhibition as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
In March 2012 we are hosting a major exhibition of Silk clothing from China titled "Living in Silk", we are going to curate an exhibition to run alongside this using pieces chosen from the Museums own silk collection.
We've already started looking at the pieces and have chosen a short list of items for the exhibition, which we'll need to confirm over the next couple of weeks.
We have also started to think about how these pieces could be displayed and possible themes for the exhibition.
The project will include the group planning, deciding and creating or comissioning all parts of the exhibition, including research and interpretation, exhibition design, public programme, events, marketing and publicity. We'll work alongside professionals to learn various skills and approaches through mentoring, visits, workshops and talks.
Our exhibition will open on the 29th March 2012.
