Carrie Ahern Dance is the contemporary dance company performing the choreographic works of Carrie Ahern, an acclaimed independent dance and performance artist based in New York City since 1995. Ms. Ahern worked primarily as a freelance performer/choreographer for over a dozen dance and theater companies before founding Carrie Ahern Dance in 2005. The company is committed to organic and original collaborations with dancers, composers, musicians, visual artists and scholars. Ms. Ahern creates hyper specific worlds that are complete in their lush layering of visual, kinesthetic and aural textures. The work is architectural in the rhythm created through repetition, precise timing, and the tension within negative space. The often deceptively simple movement process poses questions about the complex nature of being human. The company works to address the over-sensitization and de-sensualization of modern life. It places its trust in the medium of the body.
