A Palestinian Cinephile who was born in Kuwait and who has been living in Jordan since 1991 after the gulf war. He couldn’t be less interested in ordinary studies during High school, Earning his first camera at age of 16 & busy minded during classes, He was the type of student who shoots his classmates during doing their homework, Capturing everything on sight with his little camera, and then rushing back home to edit them during the day & yet watching films at night, he couldn’t remember what school was like, but perfectly remembers the first Black & white Russian film has put his eyes on at the age of 5. Graduated from SAE Institute, Amman 2008 holding a Diploma in Digital Filmmaking, His highly passionate love for Worldwide Cinema has made him to purse into a more of conceptual & theoretical aspects of filmmaking rather than just technical, he joined the Red Sea Institute for Cinematic Arts, Aqaba in 2010, holding MFA in Screenwriting & Cinematography. Ghassan sees cinema as a more of an introspective & spiritual visual form rather than plain entertainment, films to influence & aspire, for that he dedicated his life time profession in exploring the intriguing language of cinema at the age of 22 when he discovered Ingmar Bergman’s “Wild Strawberries” 1957, which he felt by such incredible commitment. Ghassan praises the Cinema of Ingmar Bergman, Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, Stanley Kubrick, Andrei Tarkovsky, Jean-Luc Godard, Carl Theodor Dreyer, Sergei Eisenstein, Dziga Vertov, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luis Buñuel, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa, Masaki Kobayashi, & Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Ghassan believes in the “Cinéma pur” movement & in Avant-garde/Experimental filmmaking in which he is highly influenced by. Ghassan has made couple of short documentaries, fiction & experimental films & working as Cinematographer for various genres, also as writer/director developing couple of short films beside his first feature length Experimental film,
“Il deserto nero” The Black Desert which falls under a self-found movement “Darkwave Cinema”.
