Hey there!
what to say- Well, I was a real Theater Tech Geek in High school doing everything from shop, to sound, to Video Charperson. Then I got in to Professional Audio Recording, was The Chief Audio engineer of a two studio 24 track recording studio. Then got into television oh, about 25 years ago as a ENG Technician. Moved on to my second television station and moved up to Satellite trucks, and now I'm an internal station Engineer.
I bought my first SLR camera while Still at High School, it was a Minolta 7000 with a 35 - 70mm lens, and a 75 - 300mm lens that I called my "Honker". It took me about 10 years after the first digital camera hit the market before I bought my first Digital SLR you guessed it, A Minolta 7D which I still have today. I always wanted a video camera since High school, but I never got one. Mainly because I didn't want a "Toy Camera" AKA Automatic focus, zoom, iris or Digital zoom.
I finally got my first Video camera about a year ago, it's a JVC GY-HD110u, and no, it's not a "Toy" it's a full Proefessional HD ENG camera. I've decked it out with an Anton/Bauer plate, an old blue and round Frezzie light, an Azden 18" Shotgun Microphone, Gitzo Tripod and a cheep, "better than nuthing" manfroto pan/tilt head.
I have also put together my own HD Editing platform based on an Intel 775 Motherbord with dual Xeon 3.0 Gig processors and a couple of Raid 5 drives. Loaded it up with Adobe Creative Suite 3 a few months ago- Found out I can run CS3 on two computers under the software licence, so I got a Dell M-90 laptop to run it.
Since getting the 110U, I've shot and editied a 30 Minuite video for the Cicero Society's 100th Year Anniversery, shot the banquet it was shown at, and have started up my own buisness, I'm still attempting to get off the ground. In the last month I did a shoot for DBL Distributing for their DBL Expo 08, and have gotten 3 leads just by word of mouth- I'm not ready yet! Geesh...
so that's what I'm 'Doing'- What's my dream?
Well- I've got something inside me that's been telling me to head tward Vancouver BC, to 'Little Hollywood' I've never been there, and I don't even have a passport yet, but for the last two and a half years, SOMETHING has been driving me, or pushing me up there. I don't know where it's comming from, all I can say it's like a passion from inside. I want to go visit for the first time next year, and maybe get a work permit and move to Vancouver and do something in film. ...In the Sci-Fi Genre, or work for CBC for CTV. I'm sure I'm going to like it there.
So, If you've read this far, What about you? what's your story?
