Barbara De Biasi
Barbara was born in Pisa (just a few yards from the leaning tower) and has been playing the piano since she was five years old. She began her musical career as a pianist, with Giampiero Semeraro, receiving a first-class honours degree in piano at La Spezia's Giacomo Puccini Conservatoire (Italy) at only 19 years of age, and winning several national piano competitions.
She then started studying composition with Fabio De Sanctis De Benedictis and was offered a place at the Chigiana Academy for a film music course, studying with Academy Award winner Luis Bacalov (Il Postino).
Her passion for music and film and her dream of becoming a film composer inspired her to leave for London where she was awarded a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. There she studied composition with Malcolm Singer and graduated with a BMus(Hons) in Composition in 2013.
Barbara is currently finishing the Composition for Screen course at the prestigious Royal College of Music where she studies with Francis Shaw. She received a grant from The Seary Charitable Trust towards her studies at the Royal College.
Since moving to London, Barbara has worked with many directors (including a BAFTA winning one) coming from very prestigious institutions such as the 'London Film School', the 'Central Saint Martins College of Arts', the 'New York Film School', 'Tisch School of the Arts', the 'School of Visual Arts', the 'Met Film School', the 'New York Film Academy', 'Goldsmith University', 'Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)' and the 'New York University'. Between 2010 and 2014 she has scored 30 short films and one feature film.
