Diego James Robles: journalist
Athens, Ohio

Diego is a relative newcomer to photography; he discovered his passion for it while deployed in Kosovo with the U.S. army. While stationed there, with nothing to spend money on and time to spare, James bought a Canon SLR on eBay and two weeks later, upon arrival, he was immediately hooked on photography. Without delay, he went from firing heavy machine-guns to carrying multiple cameras and documenting every mission.

Originally from California, Diego thought he would follow in his parents’ footsteps and practice law. However, photography provided a creative outlet for his passion and the army served as a natural springboard. Soon after, he changed positions from an infantry soldier to a public affairs journalist. With his new duties, Diego was constantly imbedded and followed army units as they did everything from brushing their teeth to getting ready to mobilize and deploy overseas. Until his departure from the service, Diego photographed troops and their daily activities while also writing articles and features on their many achievements.

In order to reach the next level in photojournalism, Diego enrolled in Ohio University’s renowned Visual Communication program where he currently attends classes as a senior. In between lectures, internships, and freelance assignments, Diego divides his time between his dog (Animal) in California and his duties in Ohio.
