Pictures of the Year International (POYi) is the oldest and most prestigious photojournalism program in the world. The mission of POYi is to serve as a professional development program for visual journalists and promote excellence in photojournalism. Each year, the POYi competition honors the very best documentary photography, visual editing, and multimedia production. POYi also extends the reach of photojournalists by engaging citizens with public exhibitions that reflect the news events and social issues facing our world. And as an educational research tool, POYi hosts a vast 36,000-image archive — an unparalleled visual record of the world's greatest photographs from the past six decades. Since 1944, POYi continues to recognizing excellence in photojournalism and to advocate the role of visual journalism in a free press. POYi is a program of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism.
