Weekend Challenge: Human Movement
Hey there, peerless participants,
You know those moments where you've got the perfect song playing in your headphones and suddenly the world is in tempo and your life is a musical? Every person passing by seems to be moving in time, and hand movements during a conversation or quick steps to the subway are suddenly rhythmic and purposeful. If only every moment of every day were like that.
My challenge to you this weekend is to create a video that focuses on human movement, at any scale. A crowd flowing across the street, a dancer's controlled movements, a baby venturing into the walking world -- there's movement everywhere!
Let's take a look at a few examples of videos that focus on movement, be it dance, play, or the shuffle of daily life. First up, check out on of my favorite videos on Vimeo, which is Mathy & Fran's video for Russ Chimes. It focuses on small movements in quick succession, using jump cuts to create collages of choreography:
Camera movement can also highlight the way a person moves, like in Callum Cooper's experiment, "Full Circle", where the viewer orbits the subject's body:
And finally, Takayuki Akachi explores the movement of people walking all around the world, observing that "all of us breathe in the same air, and step on the same ground":
You can take this Challenge in any direction you'd like -- maybe explore the way your skateboard connects you to the ground, or try something experimental, like Cokau Lab's video of a breakdancer wearing GoPro cameras on his extremities. A few member's of the Community Team here at Vimeo even collect these videos, like Dan's album, Movement is Cool, or Andrea's channel, Hey Vimeo, let's Dance!.
