Weekend Challenge: Dream Description III

Hey there, my sleepy soliloquists,

Dreams are neat and very personal, but that often makes them more interesting to you than anyone you're recalling the dream for. I think the raw material is great, but maybe there's another way to present it?

Long-time user ErickC started the Dream Project way in the way way back Vimeo, and we want to keep the dream alive (with a twist). The original idea was to record yourself as soon as you woke up:

We're going to start the same way: go to sleep with your camera by your bedside, and right when you wake up, grab it and record yourself recounting your dream in as much detail as possible (but try to keep it under 2 minutes so you don't put US to sleep). Try get that moment right before you're fully awake — keep that camera within reach!

Then (this part is the twist, you guys!) create a video, using the audio from that clip! Mimic the imagery from your dream, recreate the plot with local street urchins, or create a shoebox diorama with pop-up elements and miniature marionettes; the way you go about it is up to you!

+ Document your dream first thing in the morning, then shoot a video using your dream description for the audio.
+ Keep your video under 2 minutes.
+ If you add music, make sure you use a song you or a buddy created, or something from the Vimeo Music Store! If you do choose to use a Music Store song, please throw a link in the description.
+ Add this at the end of your video's description: "Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge"
+ Upload and post your video to the Weekend Challenge Group by ***Tuesday, January 21st, 2014*** at 11:59 PM (EST).

Only videos made specifically for this Challenge will be considered.

+ The winner will receive a free Vimeo Plus account for one year! If you're already a Plus member, you'll get another year.
+ The runner-up will receive an extra 3GB of upload space!

All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up at first; we'll get to it!

Hey Cameron! I hope I did it right, I uploaded the video to my account and then on the watch the video screen I clicked Add To and clicked on Weekend Challenge! Hope that's all I had to do!

Hi. I wanted to get something clarified. Does the video have to show both the wake up moments and the imaging (so twice the sound recording), or only the video recreation of the dream? Because, for the latter one, it wouldn't be necessary to have a camera, only a microphone would do the trick.

Good point — the purpose is to capture the audio, although having the video might provide useful! If you'd rather have a mic at the ready, go for it.

I record in mp3 my dreams nearly every morning and up to three or four times a night, normally.
But I must consider if my face just awaken may trouble your dreams for a couple of days :-) ...

Wow! That's amazing. I've never recorded my dreams, like never ever. Well, I couldn't do it this weekend either. I had my recorder set, ready to be used, but when I woke up, I had a hard time really remembering anything. I had flash images, but nothing consistent; that could have probably been enough material to make some abstract video, but I was too tired to really do it. And I fell back into sleep ><
Well, I'll try next week challenge.

Do you mean puppet and diorama show or animation video with the voice over? Or did I got this wrong?

Those were just ideas -- you can do whatever you think best illustrates your dreams, live-action or otherwise.

Maybe I'll take some melatonin, see if that helps.

Haha that's my problem too! Maybe record the "stupid" dream but make an incredibly un-stupid video ;)

Finally dreamed something I remembered and was able to record me talking about it! It was kind of scary, but we'll see what I can come up with for the video! No the greatest voice over since I kept zoning out and saying 'um' but hey, it's what came out!

Sorry if this gets asked all the time, but the rules always mention either self-created music or Vimeo Store music … can we not use legally purchased music library files from a source such as Pond5.com?

Cameron Christopher

Cameron Christopher Staff

If you have all the rights to use the music, you may use it! We just keep those simple suggestions in the rules to not delve into copyright law ;)

Hey Cameron, I submitted my video Monday night/Tuesday at 1am, I was wondering if you had received it in time?

Mariangelica Forero

Oh I see, they get posted after the date- that's why I was confused I thought they had to be in the group before it and I was scared, but thanks! I get it now :) Can't wait for the next one!
