The Intersection

“The Intersection” is a film about how Kiran, a pharmacist, met Shaynee, an occupational therapist and the love of his life. When Kiran and Shaynee came to us months ago with the desire to tell their story, we had no idea that this would become our most fulfilling collaboration to date.

Kiran and Shaynee met almost a decade ago, so it was essential for us to gain as much understanding about who they were at the time, and the circumstances in which they fell in love. Our couple enriched our understanding with photos, memorabilia and countless anecdotes of their time on the McMaster University campus, and in Australia. There were laptops and cellphones, carefully preserved with documents and text messages still intact; clothing worn during their time in undergrad; even Kiran's old Discman with a bootleg copy of "Dance Mix 2006." By the time we were ready to begin filming, it felt as though we were telling the story of two of our very own friends whom we had known for years.

Storytelling is a collaborative process. It starts with discussions, discovery interviews & alignment to a common vision. With Kiran and Shaynee, our partnership resulted in the beautiful and heartwarming tale of two individuals destined to fall in love at an intersection, endure thousands of kilometres of separation, then ultimately pledge their lives to each other nearly ten years later.

When this film played before their family and friends on the night of their wedding reception, there were both roars of laughter and tears of joy. The end of our film, which depicts Kiran and Shaynee entering their wedding reception venue, was planned so as to coincide with their entrance on the actual event day and it gelled perfectly with the cheers and applause that greeted them upon their live entrance.

We were there to capture that moment on the other side of the doors, and to bring our story full circle.
